MB Sand & Surf BU10 Clinched the "Bronze West" title in thrilling style last weekend at Dorsey Field in Manhattan Beach. Facing the talented South Bay Falcon's team who entered the game just one point off the lead, it really was a winner takes all clash with the victorious team claiming the spoils in the title race.

A well fought first half so the team's delicately balanced at 0-0, with chances coming at a premium. The second half exploded into life when Sand & Surf's Michael Maloney gave the reds a 1-0 lead with an expertly placed penalty kick into the roof of the net. The Falcon's, understanding the importance of the game, committed bodies forward and were rewarded by an outstanding goal from their own number 10. Who hit a half volley into the top corner from some 20 yards out giving the Sand & Surf goalkeeper no chance!

With the clock ticking down, both teams fought desperately to win the game outright and with about 7 minutes still on the clock Dylan Bartlett pounced on a defensive mistake, to break clear through on goal, before cooly dispatching the ball into the waiting goal!

The final whistle brought a huge cheer at Dorsey Field as the BU10 team celebrated it's first league success.

Well done to all of the boys and their families on a terrific finish to a fine season!

Whether you are a once year visitor to camp, or a year round committed club player, we want your experience to be outstanding. It is a little know fact that Soccer in the US is actually on the decline in terms of membership, and that over the past 3 years the national average for the retention of soccer club members has seen a 17% decrease across the board on a National Level.

MB Sand & Surf has however moved against the flow of the current trend and steadily increased membership in all aspects of our programming, from our Developmental Leagues - Camps - Academy and Competitive Club Teams......and this is not happening by accident!

So Why Are We So Successful?

Our Coaching Staff: - Ask anyone who currently plays in any of our programs or has experienced witnessing our Sand & Surf Coaching staff in any capacity, and we are confident that they will tell you that our staff is truly outstanding on every front, regardless of program and regardless of the level that your child plays at. Our aim is to create a connection with every player and to make every experience a positive one, that will keep the players playing the game that they love. Our Coaching Staff is also committed to developing their own personal coaching expertise, through ongoing further education through the USSF and NSCAA organizations, and our coaching roster continues to grow, with annual, "quality additions" made when the right candidates become available.

Volunteers: - MB Sand & Surf is a volunteer based organization. Our Board of Directors consisits of many committed and talented indviduals, who work in their areas of expertise to provide an unrivalled experience for our players and membership, providing not only administrative support to our on-field programs, but also in the hosting of our Annual Sand & Surf Club Banquet, Our "Kicking it together" community project in conjunction with City Hospital, Club Photo day, Fund raising initiatives and many other, community/Club based events that our critical to us in complementing "Who we are" as a family organization.....and we are always looking for able and willing additions to our volunteer base.

Parents: - Many Youth Organizations fail to understand the importance of parent participation and don’t see why it is essential to create a connection between each family and the programs in which they are committing so much time, resources and effort to! We believe that happy parents are a direct result of happy children and we make it one of our main goals to ensure that each parent is able to provide honest and open feedback of our programs and services, to ensure that we are consistently hitting the mark as an organization. We embrace parents and families and realize that we couldn’t possibly provide nearly as good a program without their commitment and support to the club.

MB Sand and Surf Soccer Club is extremely proud of the position that it holds in the lives of many children, parents and families here in the South Bay and we would like to think that as we grow, so does the bond with each of you!
It was an emotional night for the ladies of MB Sand & Surf Soccer Club on Sunday 13th November as they embarked upon their final "home" game for the club, under the lights at Village Field against a spirited Santa Monica outfit.

A packed house saw many Sand & Surf families venture the cold evening to say fairwell to the final "original founding" Sand & Surf team as the girl’s prepare to embark on the next phase of their own personal development and careers.

Despite some spirited challenges and a real hunger for success from the girls, the game didn’t start as planned with MB Sand & Surf trailing 3-1 early into the second half.

There was magic in the air however, as a willing crowd and a team destined to go out on a high, committed everything they had to turn the result around....as the clock ticked down Sand & Surf miraculously pulled the game back to 3-3. The atmosphere on the sideline was bouyant as the girls pushed and pushed to get the result they desperately wanted and in the 80th minute Rachel Oster netted a winner that echoed throughout the city Manhattan Beach.

It was a special night for coach of 4 years Kyle Gouveia, who has created a truly outstanding team of exceptional young ladies. As the players put their hands in for one final cheer to celebrate their home fairwell, the cheer was "FAMILY" which provided a suitable and emotional goodbye to a team that has represented the club with great dignity and poise throughout the years.

It should also be noted that the victory cemented the girls in second place in the U19 Silver Elite Division which is even more impressive considering that most of the players are indeed only U17 & 18.

We thank the players for the tremendous path they have paved and wish them the very best of success as they make the next steps into their adult lives!

The Girls U15 squad are ready for an assault on gaining promotion from their Silver Division this season under the watchful eye of head coach Mandy Cavan. Coach Cavan (Formerly Clemens) has an outstanding pedigree as one of the most prolific college strikers in the game at Santa Clara University scoring 67 goals in her time there before signing for the Philadelphia Charge in the Women’s Professional League WUSA.

MB Sand & Surf has been delighted with the addition of coach Cavan to the roster and her attack based philosophy is already providing a great return on the field with the girls putting in some strong displays through the spring and summer months. We wish them the best on the fall campaign and who knows who the next star out of the pack may be?
