MB Sand and Surf is extremely proud of the outstanding Coaching Staff that we have assembled over a period of time. It is our belief that providing the most qualified, experienced and knowledgable of coaches is simply not enough....We know that our most precious members are our players and as such it is essential that our coaches understand that their role’s go significantly beyond outstanding training on the field. Our coaches are practicioners of "Positive Coaching" and actively work to ensure that our players understand the need for respect, commitment, teamwork and caring for their teammates and opponents. Our mission is to "Develop the Complete Player," and with that comes high expectations for not only performance with the ball but also for positive modelling behaviors on and off the field.

Mark Hodson - MB Sand and Surf Director of Coaching

Mark joined the MB Sand & Surf Soccer Club in 2005 when the club consisted of just three teams. In his first season, Mark took over the then BU13 team and over a period of time guided them to numerous titles, including league championships and a host of tournament wins. The initial U13 team has since graduated with a number of those players now currently playing in nationally ranked college programs. 

Since his initial introduction to the club, Mark has worked closely with Club President, Robert Goldberg, in developing an Organization that now rivals any Soccer Club in Southern California, with an ever increasing complement of 17 competitive teams, 4 developmental teams, a Player Development Academy, Summer Training Camps and over a 1000 players in the Sand and Surf Developmental Leagues.

Mark currently holds the prestigious NSCAA Premier Diploma and has been able to experience the rapid growth of US Youth Soccer over a 13 year coaching career in the United States which kicked off in New York in 1999.

Mark previously worked as a District Leader for the "then" MLS Camps program from 2000 - 2010 and was responsible for the training and management of over 1000 professional coaches during that tenure. Prior to his arrival in the US Mark worked in the English Football Association’s Youth Training Scheme, working with players from numerous professional clubs including Blackburn Rovers, Burnley, Wigan Athletic and Middlesboro. 

As a player Mark represented a number of Professional Clubs before heading to University. At University he studied Physical Education and represented the colege, York St. John, for three season’s, earning club colors and captaining the college’s first XI.

As Director of Coaching for MB Sand and Surf, Mark is committed "to ensuring that every player receives the opportunity to be the best that they can be," under the watchful guidance of our professional coaching staff.

Mark is a resident of Hermosa Beach, where he lives with his wife Ashley and their daughter Willamena.
